5 Charged in 'Smuggling Scheme' After Fatal Crash in South Texas:
Federal prosecutors have charged five people recently in a plot to smuggle illegal immigrants across the border in Mexico. This incident occurred when the Border Patrol became suspicious of three vehicles attempting to cross the border in Texas. When officials attempted to stop the car and conduct inspections on the car, the cars drove away at high speed, causing a chase. As ABC News stated, “When agents tried to make "immigration inspections," two of the three vehicles — a 2007 Suburban and a 2008 Tahoe — led authorities on a high speed chase...The Suburban, carrying 14 people and traveling more than 100 mph (161 kph), lost control and overturned on Texas Highway 85 as it was entering Big Wells, a town about 100 miles southwest of San Antonio. Most of the occupants were ejected. Four passengers died at the scene and another died enroute to the hospital. The names of the victims have not been released.”  This incident has happened amid tensions between Trump and Mexico, with no “No Tolerance” policy, which made many immigrants unhappy about the policies that Trump has put in action.
Case of Andrea Yates:
The case of Andrea Yates is a case about a woman who drowned all five of her children in a bathtub in 2002. She is currently in an asylum and a correctional facility right now. ABC News had stated that “‘"Mental illness as a whole is scary for people because it's hard to see from the outside," said Dr. Matthew Faubion of Kerrville State Hospital. Far away from the limelight, on the edge of the Texas Hill Country, is a place Andrea Yates has called home for more than a decade. ‘She's where she needs to be,’ said attorney George Parnham.” Andrea Yates has tried to commit suicide by overdosing and drowning herself, both which were unsuccessful, so she took that anger on her children. Just when her husband left for his job, Yates filled the bathtub and drowned her children, one by one. She has plead insanity and has been put in an asylum.
“Little Jacob”:
On October 2017, the police found a dead boy, ranging from 3-5 years old in a empty field. The investigators then released a sketch about him, and offered a 10,000 dollar reward for anyone who may have information about him. In an article in ABC News, it states that “The latest information authorities have on the little boy is that they believe he died about October 17-18, 2017, and was put into the water in the Galveston County area. Autopsy results are inconclusive about how the child died, but he did not drown. His body showed signs of neglect and injuries consistent with abuse, detectives say. After exhausting all other option, authorities release a photo of the dead child.” Little Jacob has been one of the most disturbing cases in Texas, and needs much more information to solve the case.
